Coaching kids hockey is a fantastic opportunity, one that offers many rewards. The KMHA is committed to providing a great environment for our coaches, trainers and managers to carry out their responsibilities. By offering guidance, training and support for our coaches we hope to make each season as fun and memorable for the team officials as it is for the players.

This section outlines our strategy on the different aspects these three key positions …

Coaches
The KMHA is very active running Coaching clinics, including Coach certification levels through Hockey Canada and the ODHA, as well as our own in-house sessions.

We outline the expectations we have of our coaches to teach not only technical skills and tactics, but sportsmanship, the concept of a team player and life skills.

Our support also includes the X’s and O’s of the game, from the fundamental skills to the body checking progression, to team tactics. We provide Goalie Instructors for each age group and have a gym available for off-ice sessions.

As with players, a camaraderie among coaches makes the season so much more enjoyable, so there’s a heavy emphasis on communications and coordination among our coaches.

Trainers
Similarly, we are very active with our Trainers certification and clinics, running numerous clinics throughout the year. Playing hockey is a safe environment is a priority, so there are a number of new initiatives underway this year to enhance our ability to do that. More details will be provided in the coming months.

Managers
A very key position on any team is the Team Manager. KMHA provides training, forms and a Team Admin Guide to help managers run their team successfully.

Information will continue to be added to this section and by the end of this coming summer we’ll be ready for the next season. We strongly encourage all interested individuals to consider helping out in some capacity next year, not only to make it a great year for the players but to enjoy the season more yourself.
